Residing on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro at the entrance to the picturesque Kotor bay, next to the beautiful medieval city of Herceg Novi, Lazure hotel complex revives the historical premises of Lazaret, an 18th-century landmark, which has been carefully renovated and brought back to life as a luxury boutique hotel offering exceptional standards of service inspired by Montenegrin hospitality values. This luxury hotel offers 24 rooms and suites set in an 18th-century Lazaret building and designed in a combination of modern and rustic styles to emphasize the historical building features by contemporary details. Additional 104 rooms and suites located in the new modernResidential building were opened in August 2021.
Lazure Resort Residences is a new residential part of the historical landmark site of the Lazure hotel complex, with beautifully designed buildings that combine elegant Mediterranean architecture with some of the finest natural materials, creating a final addition to the magical Lazure complex. Offering every comfort of a five-star hotel living in a total of 58 residences, the Lazure Team is on hand to provide homeowners with all amenities and make this beautiful resort facility at their service.

Lazure Spa offers a luxurious retreat for hotel guests and visitors, including a swimming pool, a variety of saunas, hammam, Jacuzzi, massage, body care treatments, gym, as well an indoor and outdoor group workout area.
The History
In 1688, the Venetians managed to take over Herceg Novi from the Ottoman Empire and, given the city’s proximity to the Boka bay entrance, set out to make it a port. Powerful maritime states of the past had learned the hard way what heavy trade could bring to the local population alongside riches –public health was one of the most important tasks for the new authorities. The city had to build aquarantine station for travelers and goods to be cleared.
The first quarantine called Lazaret was organized in 1700 and was placed in Herceg Novi, near the old town, just below the Catholic Monastery of St. Anton. In a few years, it was decided to take it apart due to the danger of landslides as Herceg Novi is situated on the cliff and consists of solid slopes, hence it is often called the city of 10 000 steps.
New Lazaret was built in 3 years between 1729 and 1732 in the suburbs of the city in the village of Meljine right on the shore of the sea. It was a whole complex of buildings with an atrium and chapel. Outwardly, it resembled a small fortress, the only difference is that the walls were not as high and didn’t have the battlements. In the next century, the Austro-Hungarians, new owners of Lazaret, used the building for military purposes. During the Yugoslavian period Lazaret was mostly used as storage, and starting from 1990s one part of it was completely abandoned and another was used for children’s camp.
Recognizing the great historical value of the Lazaret, investors and architects of Lazure Hotel & Marina preserved the unique atmosphere of this complex and expanded its functionality.
Renovation of the building lasted longer than it took originally to build it from scratch in 18th century –started in January 2015 it was completed only in August 2018.
All the walls were in very good condition and proved that Venetians knew how to build something that will last for ages –the Lazaret survived the famous earthquake of 1979 which seriously damaged a significant part of the Montenegrin coast. Meanwhile, the roof and floors unlike walls were in very bad shape after decades of neglect, they had to be completely replaced.
As for the interior design – the idea was to make a perfect combination of old and new and to highlight the historical details of the building with a modern touch. The Lobby of the Hotel, which used to be an open courtyard and is now covered by a glass roof, has a very interesting feature – a chapel of St. Rocco. It was neatly renovated by a very experienced artist who spent many years working on similar projects in Italy.
The Rooms and Suites are very airy, filled with light colors and textures. Some guests say that they feel theScandinavian design influence, but in fact the whole project was developed by a team of young designers from Serbia. The paintings in the restaurants and rooms were done especially for the project by a famous Montenegrin artist and professor of Art Academy in Cetinje.
Construction of the new Residential building started in 2019. It consists of additional 104 hotel rooms and suites featuring mountain or sea views and 58 privately owned Residences. Our beautifully designed building combines elegant Mediterranean architecture with some of the finest natural materials. In spring2021 we opened its doors to our first guests and homeowners.
The Name
Lazaret in Meljine was always widely known among locals and guests of Herceg Novi, therefore in the process of reconstruction and development the project team wanted to maintain contact with the historical name of this unique place, thus there was an idea to give the name Lazure. This word is, first of all, associated with air, sea, clarity, calmness, and azure color. And this is not coincidental - you can find many details of the bright-blue color in the historical building - the doors of the chapel, the shutters and windows frames. And of course, “lazure” has a common root with the historical name “lazaret”.

Lazure is a family friendly Hotel.Children are more than welcome to the resort premises; however, they must be supervised at all times in the beach and swimming pool areas.

No Cooking Nor Fire
The safety of our guests, staff, and this facility is extremely important to us. Preparation of food in guest rooms, that are not equipped with a hotel kitchen, is prohibited. Open fires, cooking grills, and fireworks are not allowed anywhere on the Hotel property.

Spa and Wellness
Reset your well-being at our Atmosphere Spa & Wellness Center and take your pick from a nourishing selection of our wellness offerings . In addition to our spa and pool facilities, we also feature services such as massages, facials, and group fitness classes. It is open daily, from 08:00h – 20:00h.
The towels, bathrobes, slippers, water and other refreshments are available inside. A spa menu with all treatments can be found in Your room.
As our Spa facility can accommodate up to 40 guests, it is best to call the Spa reception and book in advance. Please note that children till 15,99 years old are allowed to use the spa up till 16:00h.
Smoking Policy
A non-smoking policy applies to all indoor areas within the resort. It is forbidden to smoke in the rooms. Instead, please use terrace.300 Euro penalty fee will be applied for violation of this procedure.

Visitors
As we consider guest comfort and safety as our highest priority, the hotel will not allow visiting hotel guests in their guest rooms without prior notice and hotel guests’ approval. Visitors must notify Reception upon their arrival. Visitors must be accompanied by the registered guest at all times. Visitors are not allowed to use guest amenities. As a registered guest, you are responsible for your visitor at all times.
Personal ID is required for the visitors after 23:00h.
